Método: o artigo adotou como metodologia de pesquisa a experiência dos seus autores, além de pesquisas telemáticas, documentais e bibliográficas, com foco na legislação que ampara as ações, dadas as características da matéria em discussão. Objetivo: tem-se por objetivo discutir o histórico da gestão documental no Tribunal de Justiça do Distrito Federal e dos Territórios – TJDFT, destacando os desafios enfrentados ao longo das décadas, desde a instalação do Tribunal no Distrito Federal, à luz da arquivologia. Apresenta a evolução das práticas e políticas de gestão de documentos e da memória, incluindo a consolidação das ações de gestão documental a partir da promulgação da Lei 8.159/1991 e da criação do Projeto de Modernização dos Arquivos – Proma em 2005. Além disso, aborda a transição do suporte físico para o suporte digital, a implantação de sistemas eletrônicos como o SEI e o PJe, e os desafios e inovações trazidos por essas mudanças. Destaca também a importância da parceria com instituições de pesquisa científica, evidenciando a necessidade de programas e projetos contínuos alinhados à gestão estratégica do órgão para garantir plenamente os direitos dos cidadãos no ambiente digital. Resultado: portanto, conclui-se que, somente por meio de um processo contínuo e apoiado por patrocinadores da Alta Administração, e pautado em apuradas técnicas de gestão arquivística da informação, será possível aproveitar os benefícios de uma inovação disruptiva, e transformando-a em uma inovação incremental e perene.
