| Resumo: | The traditional image of justice, depicted as a blindfolded woman holding a scale in one hand and a sword in the other, is often criticized by the proponents of restorative justice. These authors, understanding crime as a social problem that must be solved through the active involvement of all affected parties (victim, offender and community), commonly see the iconography of this virtue as an expression of ideas that they reject: punishment as retribution and crime as a social issue that must be dealt exclusively by the government. In this sense, they present reasons why the three attributes should be abandoned totally or in part, or reinterpreted in light of the principles of their theory. |
